ESG
Preamble & Scope
Matador Secondary Private Equity AG is convinced that the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into our investment process supports our goal of achieving sustainable high returns. We endeavor to implement the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) in our investment activities. Although much of our investment is in the secondary market, where we take ownership stakes in numerous partnerships and hundreds of underlying companies, we will use our influence with fund managers to promote best practice where possible. We are aware that corporate social responsibility and sustainability issues are essential and take our duty to the investors we serve seriously.
Investment analysis & due diligence
We recognize that ESG considerations increasingly reveal material risks and opportunities that have the potential to impact net asset value. We strive to develop a comprehensive awareness of these issues during our due diligence process.
We adhere to the highest standards and seek to invest in underlying funds that are committed to standards of good conduct, including, as a minimum, compliance with all applicable local and international laws and regulations. In addition, we prefer to invest in funds that implement principles that go beyond the minimum standards, including but not limited to issues such as environmental (e.g. pollution and waste), social (e.g. labor laws, health and safety, human rights) and governance (e.g. anti-bribery and corruption, ethics, accounting).
Matador Secondary Private Equity AG’s due diligence process aims to develop an understanding of the opportunities and risks of investments. The data is gathered by reviewing fund reports, interacting directly with fund managers, conducting market research and utilizing Matador’s network of market experts. It is the aim of Matador Secondary Private Equity AG to collect information on ESG considerations during this process. Fund managers and investment managers are asked to provide information on their ESG policies during our diligence process.
Ownership
During the ownership of the investments, we monitor the ESG progress of our underlying funds to ensure that the interests of our shareholders are well protected. When we learn of a significant ESG issue that requires active attention, we work with the underlying fund to understand how they are addressing the situation. Where possible, we use our influence to address ESG issues and concerns.
Governance
Matador Secondary Private Equity AG promotes the systematic review of ESG issues at the highest level during the investment cycle. The Board of Directors of Matador Secondary Private Equity AG oversees the ESG policy, performance and reporting and is responsible for managing the implementation of the ESG policy and driving further ESG integration into the investment processes.
